What Color is Your Parachute?
If you are like me, you find yourself going to work day after day to a job that is OK, but not fulfilling and not exactly your Ideal or Dream Job. The job pays the bills but there is little left over for anything else.
Recently, a friend suggested that I read a book by a man who has made it his lifes work to study job hunting. This book is a fascinating read and stuffed full of practical helpful advice.
What’s more, this is a book that gets updated each and every year and the 2012 edition is the 40th anniversary edition!
What Color Is Your Parachute? 2012: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers It’s a catchy title and a great question.
Richard Bolles not only covers the how to, such things where & how to look for a job, how to prepare a resume, how to prepare for an interview, and all that fun stuff.
He goes deeper. He helps the reader discover him/herself by doing a series of exercises called “The Flower Exercise”.
To be fulfilled in the work you are doing, you need to be doing something that is fulfilling to you. Until you “Know Yourself” you really will not know what to even look for. That is the real value of this book and why I recommend getting a copy of it for your own.
all the best,
Derrall
